Mentoring Support to COVID-19 Survivors

We at Blacklivesmentored are keen to provide a mentoring service to BME communities affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

As the cases of COVID-19 continue to increase across the world, evidence is continuing to emerge that the pandemic could be disproportionately affecting people from BME communities.

The risk of COVID-19 related death is more than four times as high for people of black ethnicity than for those of white ethnicity after adjusting for age and are more likely to live in areas badly affected by COVID-19 infection. These groups experience stigma associated with a lack of knowledge about how COVID-19 spreads, [Imperial College London 2020].

Blacklivesmentored, want to mentor these individuals by suggesting virtual resources for mental wellbeing or other social support services for those who have experienced stigma or discrimination.

There are COVID related patients who have been discharged from hospital and have no one in which to motivate them to return to their old lives.

Secondary Mental health services have also seen an increase in the BME community being seen by mental health professionals following detention by the police.

Many businesses have been forced to make people redundant which has had a devastating impact on mental health and general well-being.

In addition, the criminal justice system is seeing young black boys being coerced into county-lines drug running as a result of boredom – again linked to COVID – 19 and lockdown.

Our mentoring service in response to COVID – 19 pandemic would consist of:

Mentoring individuals recovering from the effects of COVID – 19 to reconnect them back to their old life’s and activities.

Support BME individuals to return to work or motivate them to seek out new employment opportunities.

Engaging young people with ideas and services in order to support them to make positive choices.

Providing a mentoring advice to reduce the spread of the virus, promote social distancing, hand washing and the wearing of masks when accessing certain public places.

For us to provide this service we are actively seeking to secure funding.

We are a registered charity, your donation will help us to provide a service to the BME community.

For those BME individuals affected directly or indirectly by COVID – 19, mentoring could enable them to make a success of their lives.

If you or your company/establishment can support this service with a donation, please go to the contact page on this website where you can send us a donation.

Your support would be greatly appreciated
